Can you convert a section view into a drafting view

Hello,

I am fairly new to Revit and have a question. Is there a way to convert section views into 2D drafting views? I'm trying to save myself some time and not redraw everything and it seems like there should be a way to do it.

Thanks in advance.

You would export to dwg and import dwg. Explode and you should get lines and hatch.

Check out my Revit youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/scourdx

Drafting views are 2D annotation views, no model elements. Sections are live views of the model elements.

Why? What is the reason for wanting to be able to do this?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I'm guessing to be able to insert it into another project, probably some typical detail.

I'm guessing

Do you also have a guess as to why they didn't ask how people go about creating typical details?

No. Do you? Is this some game?

You guessed at my question to the OP, so I thought you might want to play some more.

To remove the guessing from the equation, the reason why I asked this question is because I have found some limitations with the 3D aspect of section views in Revit which can make detailing difficult. I am working on a fairly complex remodel that is spanning several phases and so my building section view was having a hard time representing things accurately to how I wanted them in the detail. 2D offered the flexibility to draw/redraw things specific to how I needed them hence the question.

As mentioned I'm fairly new to Revit so if there are other or better ways to detail or create typical details I'm all ears. For now @syman2000 had the answer that I needed to solve the immediate problem.

Thanks everyone!

You need not convert a section model view to a drafting view.  Set the view's Display model to halftone and draft over it.  When done, set the view's Display model to Do not display then you only have drafting elements left in the view.
