Can't upgrade a file from Revit 2015 to Revit 2017

Hi guys,

I am trying to update my model from 2016 to 2017, it starts the process and about half way it gives me an error: an unrecoverable error has occured, then it shuts down.

The file works fine in 2016 and I have not had any messages saying the file is corrupted, I audited and purges the file but still get the same error.

Any ideas on what could be happening and how to solve this?

Thanks!

keep the original file 2016 in a safe place

open the 2016 file and detach and preserve worksets to make an archived copy.

save the archived copy in a different location.

do you have any linked files Revit or AutoCAD?

those Revit links will also need to be updated.

purge and audit your new Archived model sync and relinguish close the file.

open Revit 2017 browse to the Archived model and upgrade that to 2017 run an Audit during the upgrade.

delete your local copies and support folders for that model.

Thanks for your help. My file did not have any work sharing enabled. What I did was to enable work sharing, save the central file and then proceeded to do what you recommended and it worked!

Still wondering why it wouldn't update the file without work sharing.... Anyway I have my file up and running.
