Can't unhide Linked CAD file

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi All,

I am trying to link in an Autocad file into Revit and use it as an underlay. 1st issue: When I follow the steps to Link in my cad file, (Intert tab, Link CAD, browse to the file, click Open), my .dwg only shows up in hidden view (Light bulb view). When I select it, the Unhide Element button is greyed out. How can I unhide this cad link?

Second issue: In Autocad the drawing is very clean. When I link the same .dwg file into Revit, all of this extra stuff is showing up that is not visible in the original file like extra stair blocks, annotations, etc. I have tried linking in the .dwg file and choosing (visible layers only) but that does not seem to work.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

1. Did you link it in a view assigned with a view template?  The view template may turn off Imported categories.

2. Visible Layers only option is only applicable to Imported DWGs, not linked DWGs.

Hello,

Is the Revit file you are using a collaborated file (with a Central model)? If it is then maybe the workset you are on/the workset that the CAD file is being loaded into is toggled off for that view.

For the AutoCAD file, what I would do is:

1)  Save a new copy of this CAD file (to be used for loading into Revit)

2)  In AutoCAD,  I would hide all of the objects I want to see in Revit

3)  Unfreeze/Unhide all of the layers

4)  Delete all of the elements that were just unhidden

5)  Unhide the elements that were hidden in Step 2

6)  Move the elements to the absolute origin point (using "#,0,0" when prompted where to move the elements to)

7)  Purge

Edit: If you dont want to make a new CAD file, you could put all of elements you want to see in Revit on one layer (and if you want to, all of the other elements in another), and then in your visibility overrides just turn off all the layers you dont need and only keep the one you made.

Hi

When cleaning up CAD file, just switching off the layers wont help..

make sure you have only those layers and elements which you want to see in revit..

try zoom extent in CAD, and make sure the elements are visible and not far away from each other..

purge CAD.. and link it..

Do not import the CAD..

be aware of the scale, its easy to link when both revit units and cad units are same..

in the view, check VG and switch on imported category to see CAD

imported category.JPG

If the tab is not allowing you to do that, then probably theres a " VIEW TEMPLATE " assigned to the view..

you might have to change that setting in the " View Template "

Hi @Anonymous

I just wanted to follow up again, any progress on this issue? Were you able to resolve the issue?

If not, I would suggest the below:

 1. Is your software up to date? If not, please install the latest update.

A few questions:

  1.  Is this happening for all users or one user?
  2. Did anything else change on your system(s) around the time when this problem began?

I'd like to have a look at some journal files and your dwg/revit file which are often helpful in diagnosing problems like this.

Looking Foward to your reply update.
