Can't select objects in model - in any view, any phase

I have a building model where suddenly I cannot seelct many of the objects - walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, generic models, etc. Some objects randomly are selectiable, and many are not. I cannot select them in any view - plan, section, elevation, 3D, or in any pahse.

These pbjects won't highlight when I place the cursor over/on them, and they do not select when dragging a box around/over/through them.

The model was created and is being used in Revit 2015. The project is an existing hsoue with an addition. It appears that the objects that will not slect are in the new construction phase; all existing objects are selectable. And it's not all of the new construction objects, just some of them.

Is the model corrupt? Is my installation corrupt? I am not having this problem in any other models.

It could be a number of reasons. it is hard to give a more precise opinion without having more information. Starting in Revit 2014, there are some new options for selection of objects. At the lower right corner of the screen, threre are some options that could be activated, preventing you to select some objects. Also, if the model has Design Options, it is possible that some objects are not selectable.

I'm having the same problem.  I inherited a drawing from someone else.  I drew walls.  Now I can't select, modify or delete any of them.  They are shown in a gray color even though I changed the color in the visibility settings for each view.  In some views, the walls don't show at all.

How do I know if this drawing has "design options"?  How do I get rid of design options if this is the case?  Are there any other reasons why I can't select the walls I drew?  I made sure that everything is checked under the SELECTION drop down.

Thanks.

Design Options controls can be found on the Status Bar.

Revit2016_StatusBar_DesignOptions.png

The Design Options tool opens the Design Options dialog.  If the main list box in that dialog is empty, there are no Design Options in your project, and the Active Design Option selector (to the right of the Design Options tool) will be inactive.

If you have Design Options, then the graying out of items in a particular view will be dependent on two settings.  The first is the Visible In Option property of the View, found under the Graphics category.  Use this to select the Design Option within each Option Set that is to be shown in the View.  If the Active Design Option is set to Main Model, then neither the Main Model nor the Option Set(s) that are to be viewed in that View will have their graphics altered.  If one of the Design Options that is to be viewed in that View is set current, objects in the Main Model and objects in any other Design Option from another Set (that are set to be visible in that view) will be half-toned, leaving only the objects in the Active Design Option unaltered.  Only objects in the Active Design Option (if visible in the View) can be selected if the Active Only/Exclude Options toggle is checked.

You "get rid of" a Design Option Set (and its associated Design Options) in the Design Options dialog, by making the Design Option you want to keep the Primary option and then selecting the Option Set and choosing the Accept Primary button.  Note that this will move all objects in the Primary Design Option to the Main Model and WILL DELETE ALL OBJECTS IN THE OTHER DESIGN OPTIONS, so be certain that you want to do that before proceeding.  You may want to create an archival copy of the model prior to doing so.

I just found this behavior after upgrading to REVIT 2016.

Solution: Below Modify button in the upper left corner there is a select arrow. Pick it for a pull down menu.

Click on Select underlay elements.

Hope this helps.

See you.

This helped!

Parts was not checked off and as soon as I selected the box I was able to select my items (walls).

Thank you.

How can this issue be considered closed with such a vague answer?

Non specific questions get generic answers.  Do you have a specific issue needs to be looked at?

This irritated me so much bc it was so little and such a simple solution and it worked after I struggled for way too long.

Thank you!

My design options ALL of the options to slect at the bottom of the screen are greyed out.

This happened after editing a cloud on a detail, after I selected the green tick to complete the editing (resizing) of the cloud, the cloud disappeared. This have been due to it being past the exceeding the Annotation Crop range?!

Anyways, the Model did not go into Not responding mode, instead it appears to be still active, however, all the toolbars are greyed out! 😞 I can still open other drawings , but can't select any of the objects on the screen.

Almost seems like it has a command that is running somewhere, waiting to be finished.

Hoping I don;t have to shut this session down and lose work!

Basically everything is GREYED and does not respond. I tried typing VG.. nothing happened.

Hi there,

I've solved it by clicking on the "select links" option. See screenshot attached.

Okay, this isn't the best option, but I couldn't delete or select the TOPO Link. So, what I did was deleted the level it was associated to, I.E.: Finish Floor Main. The down side is this deletes everything associated with that level. I could HIDE IT with visibility graphics, but I couldn't delete it!

For future practice, when I link topo, I will create a special level just for it, then if I do need to delete it, I won't mess up anything else in my project.
