Can't Rotate Element Into This Position! (not always vertical issue)

Hello,

I am unable to rotate the Tote Bin from the side views.

I would like to align it to the reference plane Rotational RP, which I'd like to use to rotate using a parameter.

Please see attached.

Thanks in advance,

Connor

Can't open your file right now but in general, you can host a work plane based family on a reference plane and rotate that plane on the elevation.

@Anonymous

I have reviewed your attached family and I'm also face this type of problem in past.

Please use Face base or Line base family  if you want to rotate family in elevation or section view.

Please find the attached sample line base family for your reference.

Thanks

I saw the neatest video from AU where the guy was hosting family parts to revolved objects and controlling the angle of revolution with parameters, and controlling the visibility of the revolved object.

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

@ToanDN yes, its quite easy once you know how (I didn't know about the workplane dropdown/

@Anonymous  thanks, but changing the type of family didn't seem to play an important role.

@Bob_Zurunkle video link for solution!

So, to summarise for others who may have the same issue:

1. Go to Family Category & Parameters at the top left, then:

  • Uncheck Always vertical
  • Check Workplane based

2. Save & load into workplane based family:

  • Select Place on Workplane
  • Select workplane to place on from dropdown (as far as I know it must be from Floor Plan view):

Thereafter you can rotate the host plane to rotate the family.
