Can't rotate a family that I created

Hello, I created a family recently and then I loaded it into another project. I am unable to rotate it in the project.

Any solutions ?

Hi @talha_ozdemir ,

Welcome to the Forums, I see you're using Revit 2022 and you're facing this issue on a custom Familie you developed.

Could you kindly elaborate on this, so that other users can point to in the right direction/ or explain probable causes?

1. What kind of Family is this? maybe the template has certain restrictions.

2. Is it possible to post the family here so others can take a look at it?
3. From the looks of it, I assume it's a metal profile? What is your requirement like? Does it need to look like this in Detail as well as 3D or can it be simplified to just a rectangular profile in geometry? (May save you relative family file size).

A little more description would be very helpful to narrowing it down or finding a better workaround.

Cheers, K

Hello again, the family template is generic model. And I am also
uploading the family, it is very simple family profile for the window panels.
I created this family and uploaded to the host family, I am also uploading an image
so you can take a closer look.I constrained family to the bottom of the panel, and I also
need to constrain a copy of it to the top part, but before doing that I need to rotate the family. It
should be just a simple task, but it wont let me rotate.

If this family was supposed to be used in different orientations, you should have planned for that, either making the family face-based or making two versions of the family, one for each orientation. The face-based would have been the easiest solution. The second solution is not difficult either.

Another solution, more involved, is to make this family work-plan based and use another intermediate family (after this one and before the host) to create a rotation parameter.

Family by default cannot rotate in z direction. So you have to set it to work-plane base

In the project you create a reference plane and give it a name

Host the family on the reference plane and you can rotate it by rotating reference plane.

Are you saying that you want to rotate this family in a Host Family, as if it were hinged on one side?

....if so, make the nested Family a Work Plane-Based Family and then place it on a Ref. Line Work Plane in the Host.  Control the Rotation Angle of the Ref. Line via a labeled dimension in the Host.

I take that you need to use the same component for base and head of a panel.  If so, tick Workplane box in the family as you have been advised then you can host it on the base and top reference planes, without having to rotate anything.
