I've created a face-based model text family for when I need to add lettering to a curved wall. I just can't paint the face and not sure why. Ideas?

You can paint the family if you open the family, but you cannot paint while it is in the project using the paint tool. You have a material parameter applied to the text, you can just edit the type properties of the family in the project and change the material assignment.
You cannot paint a family when loaded is project. But you can change the Material parameter to an Instance parameter and change the material for individual letters in project.
What I'm needing is the body to be black and the face to be an illuminescent material. I was hoping this was gonna be an easier method then model text directly within the project. Guess not.
Take a look at my family...it has the parameters so that you can change them in the project...
Create a material parameter, then I selected the model text and assigned the frame material parameter, then I painted the face with the face material parameter. You can't paint the frame part as each letter will have different faces.
The trouble I'm having is I haven't, from the get go, found the button or method to apply the material parameter via Paint.
EDIT: I found it.. I didn't realize the parameter itself became a "Material". Thank you for all the help.
It's on the Modify Tab, Geometry panel...right next to Join and below Split Face....
In the list you will see <parameter name> (param)... select the material you want then click the faces you want to apply the material to....switch to a different material then paint. When finished click Done.
