Can't obtain permission to edit: consultant's model

Hello,

I am working on linking into my central model the structural model.

Based on my need to show only foundation elements and not the rest of the timber framing in my central model, my understanding is that i will need to modify the structural model to tag the foundation elements such that it can be filtered in the central model.

Is it accurate that this is a requisite step to have VG control of the element categories?

I have tried to modify the consultant's model, which is a copy of the model that I believe is detached but apparently not completely:

So what do I need to do to achieve what I am trying to accomplish?

Thanks for any  assistance

Are you saying that you are tasked with tagging elements in a Linked Project from within your Project?  Or are you saying that they are already tagged in the Link and you want the Tags to show in your Project View?

You should be able to Tag Link Elements within your Project. You may need to TAB-Select to cycle to the element you want to Tag.

Now, if the Tags have already been placed in Views of the Linked Project, you can make them visible in the Parent Project View by setting the Link to By Linked View and picking a View Name (the one with the Tags) under View Visibility & Graphic  Overrides/Revit Links tab.

Lastly, another method would be to use the Copy/Monitor Tool under the Collaborate tab to copy the Link elements directly into your Project - assuming they are copyable elements.

Hope this helps.

@cbt990

You do not need to modify the Consultants model...you just need to do the following

  • In the main model Go to visibility graphics >> Revit Links Tab
  • Set the Display Setting of the Structural Link to Custom
  • In the same RVT Link Display Setting dialog >> Go to Model Categories Tab
  • Set also to Custom
  • Switch off all the categories you do not want to see in your model and keep only the structural Foundation

Hi all,

Thank you for the suggestions. I have learned a little more about the requirements for this task. I will actually have to modify elements of the consultants model to show correct footing heights as that is beyond their scope.

So I am trying to use copy/monitor to bring the desired link elements into my project.

I am only trying to grab the foundation so I tried to initiate copy/monitor on that plan and select everything. But the elements don't end up getting copied into the project. Is there a step that I missed?

Looks OK:

But the bottom of my model doesn't show the 47 copied elements:

Copy and Bind the Link Copy and blow out what you don't need.

The copy monitor did work, it was just a phase visibility issue. Sorry for ringing the alarm bells!

Thanks for the help as always.
