Can't host lights/diffusers to architectural linked ceiling

I believe it's an issue with the architectural model, but I can't figure out what to have them fix.  The ceilings are very standard - GWB or 2x2 grids, at 8'-6" to 9'-6" in height.  Revit won't allow me to place devices on face.  I tried drawing a ceiling in our model, the same type and height, and devices host fine; so it's not a VG or view range issue, or a problem with the fixtures.  Any ideas on what else it might be?

What are your fixture families hosted to?

When in doubt, share a family or two. We could use the mental exercise.

So I think I figured out what's causing this issue, but I have no idea why: if I turn off lighting fixtures in the arch link I'm now able to host both lights and diffusers to the ceilings.  Weird, right?  Maybe something to do with the architect's lights cutting the ceilings when they place them, and modifying the properties of the ceilings somehow?  To clarify: this happens wherever I try to place the lights, not just in the holes made from the arch lights.  So I guess this is fixed, but if anyone can explain why this happens I sure would be interested.  Thanks!

Thanks for the response.  I'm unable to share these families since they belong to a client, but I don't think the issue is due to the family anyway.  Please see my follow up post - it seems to be due to the architectural lights being turned on in VG.  However, I have no idea why that would matter, so please let me know if you have any ideas.  Thanks again!

Replying to an older post, but hopefully this helps some folks. Most likely, the architectural lighting families have a "light source" that is large - this obscures the surface of the ceiling/face that you are trying to attach hosted light fixtures to. Thus, turning off the architectural lights will also turn off the light source. Very annoying, I know.

I ran into the same problem just now.  Thank you for this!  It worked!  Something to do with the lighting fixtures being turned on in the architectural model.  You were absolutely right.
