Just a general question; sometimes when you create a workplane and then later on want to place something on that workplane, that work plane is never in the list of workplanes that you can't select in the dialogue box that comes up.

why is that?

its difficult to explain what i mean but i hope someone understands

Always label the reference planes you created.

How are you setting the Work Plane?  Using "Set" tool?

Are you sure that you didn't delete the RP? Check the properties of the element you placed on it. Does it say "not associated"?

it normally happens when i draw something on a work plane and i want to change the work plane that i drew it on so i click on 'edit work plane' to place it on the named reference plane that i created and that reference plane is never on the list.

Yes. I can replicate that behavior.

Is the element "Non Associated"?

If you use Edit Work Plane then you are limited to the reference planes parallel to the original plane.  Use Pick New instead then you will be able to select the ones not parallel to the original as well.

I had a similar problem. I am trying to change the plane for a series of beams to get them to slope. But when I select "Pick New" no drop down menu appears. How can I get the drop down menu back?
