Just starting and setting up a new project and adding gridlines, unfortunately they drew it in cad so I have the dwg linked in. I added my levels and now adding gridlines. I have all the numeric gridlines added going left to right. I was adding the alphabetic gridlines going from top to bottom. I have grids A, B, C, and D; but when I get to E it skips it at makes it an "F". When I try to change the name to "E" I get the error message "The name entered is already in use. Enter a unique name." when I click "show" it just keeps highlighting gridline F and wont show any gridline E. I don't want to Skip gridline E because I want my gridlines to match the architects gridlines. Any idea why it's saying that gridline F is a duplicate of gridline E? Any idea on how to find if there is a gridline E hidden someplace?

You probably have it hidden some where! Have you checked the "Reveal Hidden Elements" button?
If it wasn't hidden try this; unchecked the crop view and select one of the grid line, right click and select all instances visible in view option, that can be a good trick to find out if it's out of cropped view. Don't forget to do it for all levels.
I just tried that and the only thing that gets reviled is the project base point, no additional grid lines.
Also, selected all instances of gridlines in view on all floors and nothing additional showed up
Check Worksets ( if you are in a Workset enabled project ).
Most of the time Grids are placed on Shared Levels and Grids Workset.
Consider you have A B C D F G H ( skipping E Here )
total number of grids should be “7”
as per Revit there’s a grid E hidden somewhere..
just select a grid.. select similar in entire project
you should get tots selected “ 8 “
elements
just unselect GRIDS A B C D F G H now
it should still show u “1” grid selected..
thats “ E” most probably .. just delete it..
dont try to find where it is.
and recreate a new grids the way you want..
cheers
I found it. I made a Grid Schedule, found gridline E in the grid schedule, clicked on it, clicked highlight in model, deleted it, deleted the grid schedule. Apparently it was underneath grid 5 with the bubble hidden and that's why I couldn't see it.
I have had the same issue and it's not hidden or anywhere to be found. What I do is create a new GL, select it and press S.A or right-click and select "Select All Instances in Entire Project". I then delete all the Grid Lines and start from scratch.
Corsten.Au's solution was great. I somehow had 5 invisible gridlines. His trick let me delete them all without having to hunt down each one first (or create a schedule).
I created a grid schedule and there is No "C" grid item. Yet, when I try and rename a grid line to "C" it says it's already being used??
Also note that the project says 15 grids in the count, yet only 10 in the schedule
My Grids are visible in the Grid Schedule, but they don't show up anywhere when I click Highlight Model... They can't be displayed in any view... The Grids are there, but Revit can't display them. Any ideas what to do... or forget about it and sleep well ![]()
Worked for me too thanks! You can select the cell you want to find then click 'Highlight in Model' along the top panel
