Can't copy drafting views because of multiple instances error

I am trying to copy a sheet of drafting views of details from one project to another. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and an error pops up saying there are multiple instances of the same view on sheet. First off; all the drafting views are unique and have there own name. Second off; isn't it impossible to put the same view anywhere twice? Why is this happening. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've attached a screenshot. The issue is with all the views not just the yellow ones.

Using the Copy to clipboard/Paste between two open files is not  effective and ideal; it is a Windows inherent command which Revit uses. They might have different names but in terms of unique; they are only unique in their own project/model file...the copy paste usually regenerate a new GUID for an element; I am not sure but it might be the reason that some of those generated IDs contradict with those present already in your new file.

To copy/transfer Drafting views from an old or another project to a new one; it would be best to open the target Revit project (ie: the project into which you want to insert the existing drafting view).

  1. Go to Insert tab >> Import panel >> Insert from File drop-down >> Insert Views from File.
  2. In the following dialog, select a project file, and click Open.
  3. When the Insert Views dialog opens displaying views which aree saved in the project.

  4. Slelect the option for views to display.
  5. Select the views to insert,
  6. Click OK and Revit will create a new drafting view with all the 2D components and text.

 Hope this helps

I tried that too. It again brings up an error with the only information being that the elements can't be copied. Nothing else. If I do the same thing in a brand new clean project, it works fine so its something inside this project file. Its really frustrating. I need to copy dozens of details and instead of just copying them all over in 2min its taking me days to locate all the views and copy them into new sheets. Is it a matter of one view or some part within those drafting views being identical to something in the project I am trying to copy into?

I have checked both project views to see if I was copying in a view that was already in the project but its not the case. Also this project is linked with another project from another office. I checked that file too and there were no duplicates. This should be all new info being copied in. Usually when copying does succeed, a warning comes up that some types are the same (like font) but different in style so the project I'm copying into takes precedence with those types. I've attached the error I get when trying to insert view. Again the lack of information is bewildering...

the workflow I gave you above is the recommended workflow for importing drafting views from other files into your current/target file....

You can either try follow that or keep getting the same error (one cannot tell more without the file). Copying and Pasting is simply not the right way to transfer drafting view. I am not the one saying this is it Autodesk.

I thought I found a solution put copied into wrong file... Cat Mad

I've now even audited and purged the central file seperately as a test and it still doesn't work. I think my file is corrupt or something.

Okay I've narrowed down the problem in one instance of copying details. Its not allowing anything to copied which has a detail group anywhere inside of it. So even if the detail group is in one view it won't copy any of the other views. This doesn't happen in any other file. Anyone know why this is happening?

In your reply to Darin you had an image with the 2 error...are you able to expand and check the ID number of the instance causing the error?

Its just the error for multiple instances of a view (which there isn't). Here is a screenshot with the error expanded.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

I import the drafting views from another project but I have done it at the end of the job. When I import using the 'insert from file' i get an error message saying the below
