is it possible for name of "Areas" and "Rooms" to be parameterically linked ... specifically to the unit number and unit name?

No. But you can can assign Department name for Rooms and add Department label to the Room Tag, and create color schemes based on Department names.

I actually like Spaces and Zones because they can link, unlike Rooms and Areas.

Interesting ... I'll look into spaces ...

Currently we don't even have space tags loaded into our stations ...

Do spaces exist on the floor plan and or the area plans?

Currently we are using the rooms / color scheme (by names) for demonstrating occupancy types and rated enclosures ... and the net areas for manually calculating occupant loads ...

We intended to use Areas for the Rentable Areas for unit types, an area plan for Allowable Building Areas and another for smoke compartments ...

Then all of these areas would be displayed on schedules ...

Will spaces do what I'm trying to achieve with Rooms and Areas?

I don't discourage using Area. It has its uses and the flexibility to have different Area boundaries than Room boundaries can be useful. The only drawback is the disconnection between Areas and Rooms.

Spaces and Zones are mostly used for MEP. Using them for architectural is a kind of a workaround to have the benefit of their dynamic relationship. I see no harms but you can give them a try ans see how they fit in your end.

That's really the trick ... trying to learn and apply the available tools in revit ...

For this pass we may move forward with Rooms and Areas since we are half way invested ...

We are still trying to automate as many of the functions ... so we will need to gauge the benefits of each of these tools ...

I did notice that we have no tags available for spaces ... is this because we are running Revit Architecture then ?
