Can not join roof error

See screenshot. Extrude by face roof will not 'join roof' with sloped footprint roof. Moments earlier I was able to join them. Made sure top face of roof is entirely above, still won't work. Thanks for the help.

Hard to troubleshoot something like this "over the phone", especially when you say it joined before, but now it won't.  Could be any number of reasons.  Post your file. We'll figure it out -- or hang up.  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

You got it captain. In the mean time I cut a dormer in the shed roof by tracing the gable in plan view. It's not destroying all of my sections so far, but ultimately I WOULD rather have it join the shed roof, so it's not protruding through it when I inspect the section for headroom.

Maybe... turning the shed roof into a square cut, then picking that as the work plane for the 'extrude by face' roof, and then making the roof one piece instead of two..... going to try this.

There's more than one way to "skin this cat".  How about this solution?

Cutting away the excess "under-hanging" portion with an In-Place Void:

Excellent. So when I 'edit profile' of roof by face family, I do not see the create massing (void) tool available.. Do I just create a new roof component that is a void and then cut the other roof?

Looks like I have two accounts. Will accept your solution when I get back in the office. I made a Generic model - roof - void and was able to cut the arched segmented dormer, and now my sections are looking excellent. Thanks captain

The void was created in the Project using Component: In-Place Model Tool (Architecture Tab).  Sketch the Void, "Cut" the Target with it, and press "Finish" to close out of In-Place Session.   Very handy way to do cleanup work.

BTW: Nice roof design.

re roof design: thank you. It's a reno/ addition to a waterfront house. Hoping the curved roof on the third floor helps the 'wavy' look the previous renovation was going for.
