We are building our Revit library. Many of our families will be using type catalogues which we love! However, some of the families have HEAPS of types. For example, some tables would have 4 different colours of legs 10 different colours of tops, so that's 40 items to scroll through in a type catalogue.
Can we put a blank line/line break in between categories? Somthing like:
<Table Red - Black Top
Table Red - White Top
Table Red - Red Top
Table Blue - Black Top
Table Blue - White Top
Table Blue - Red Top>
We know we could do a dummy line (a type with all parameters at 0, for example), but this could create a risk when designers load in a bulk lot of types as the dummy type would come into their project.
We have tried searching the internet and AKN but no luck! Hoping someone can enlighten us

I actually posted the same question years ago. We also tried "Dummy Lines". It didn't last. Now we just deal with it as is.
@barthbradley Oh man, that's so annoying! But at least I know I haven't been missing things in my search for an answer. I will remain hopeful for a little while longer that there is a solution, then we can both celebrate!

Agreed. You buying?
Hi
There is a way to sort the families... I would put one more parameter ( example Colour )
and like Excel Pivot Tables, Sort and choose families to load...
All Families ( Mixed up )
Sorted and filtered by Colour Parameter ( Text )
Sorted and filtered by Colour Parameter ( Text )
Sorted and filtered by Colour Parameter ( Text )
Oooooooooh @Corsten.Au that is way cool! I've never seen a type catalogue sort/group that way! I love the idea of having a little drop down list that groups the similar types together.
I had to google Pivot Tables https://exceljet.net/things-to-know-about-excel-pivot-tables and they seem very cool.
What's the process for getting this kind of functionality within Revit type catalogues? "Sort and choose families to load..." - is that within the type catalogue?
Yeah
its within Revit..
you can sort it by any of those parameters in the family..
by height, length etc
that small pull down arrow ( by default its " all " )
Sorting
@Corsten.Au you have blown our minds!!!!
Also, we are feeling a little foolish. LOL
All our items will have a material parameter, which I will now show the team how to use to filter the types of items they want to import.
So satisfying. Can't stop smiling. You have made our day.
Thanks!

Yes. But I must say, I'm so enjoying your reply to @Corsten.Au. I feel your beaming smile right now. It comes across and is contagious.
