can I complete a drawing from ACAD in Revit?

Hi I have drawn a certain amount of info in ACAD 2017 and have a headache that comes with annotative text / dims / Paperspace and Modelspace etc.

What I would like to do is continue this project using Revit.  3D is NOT necessary, although would be nice to have when I start cutting sections and elevations etc.

Ultimately, these drawings will be exported to ACAD 2017 for the Consultants to prep their respective dwgs.

What directions (OTHER THAN SORTING THINGS OUT IN ACAD) can you give me?

Please provide this advice to someone that doesn't have a great deal of experience using Revit, but can get around with this fantastic s/w!

Thanks

It maybe more efficient for you to get your head around understanding annotative text / dims / Paperspace and Modelspace in AutoCAD then bring the half done work in Revit then bring it back in CAD for your consultants.

I was planning to draw this in Revit using the dwg file as a base.  Seems every time I turn around there is something else I have to deal with, something not showing up in the next view. Its a headache, trying to get my head around this. I remember working with Revit this is not an issue.

It sounds like you have made up your mind. Then so be it. Create a new Revit project, link the CAD in a Floor plan view origin to origin, then using Revit tools to trace it.

I agree with the other comments, you should stick to CAD and learn better workflows for the issues you're currently facing.

If you were to start off in Revit from scratch you'd have enough trouble getting things to work, let alone to migrate a CAD project halfway through. You'll just double your work and, in the end, your final CAD export from Revit won't have the adequate finesse you'd expect from a drawing entirely made on CAD.

Smiley (überrascht) Were you drawing everything in Paperspace?

great question, let me clarify.

I meant I could ignore Pspace with it viewports etc and the use of annotative text / dims etc. In addition to not seing blocks I had made in mspace not being seen in the vport etc.

No I wasn't drawing in Pspace btw. :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

I wouldn't bother if you trying to keep it 2d. I've done it with area plan with one of the designer working on AutoCAD while I process it in Revit. Unfortunately AutoCAD with errors will impact Revit performance. One of my Revit file took 30mins to open because CAD file contain a lot of XREFs cross reference multiple drawings.
