The Parent View parameter is not changeable in Revit. Once you create a callout view on a view, thats it. You can however copy the callout view to your clipboard, and paste it to the same place on another view. Now copy all your annotations to the clipboard, and paste it into the "new" callout. The parent view will be changed, and you wont lose all of your detailing.

Hi, it's actually possible, and fast, with Dynamo. You can do it in (at least) two ways:

A) You open the callout that you want to move (active view), orChangeParentView.png

 B) You create a list with the callouts you want to move, as many as you want

ChangeParentView2.png

then you select the target view and run the script

@Anonymous

Does this actually change which parent view the callout shows up in?  Or does it only change the callout view's properties?

Hi.

1. If you have to make changes in only one view, then just create a new " Call out " before placing it link it

to new view you want.

2. If you have many callouts pointing to same view, then move that callout to new required location..

there is no default way to change the view direcly.. unless someone comes up with some new idea..

3. The idea of callout is to lock the callout to the view..

best luck

@Anonymous it changes both.

Let's say you create some Callouts in Section 1 (Scale 1:100), you work on them adding details, hatches, dimension etc.CalloutParentView 1.PNG

At one point you figure out that you want to show your Callouts in Section 2 (Scale 1:50), for some reasons. With Dynamo you select the Callouts you want to move and the target view (Section 2) and the job is easily done.

@Anonymous Great illustration!

The situation I find myself in most often is fixing other people's mistakes and having to cut/paste enlarged plans from one plan type to another.  It's nice to know that this can be accomplished in section also!

Luca,

I need to move some enlarged plans, but have never used dynamo. Is that script able to be saved and downloaded?

FYI: For plan view, the "Parent View" parameter of call-out is read-only, can not be changed by Dynamo.

THIS DOES NOT WORK . THE PARENT VIEW IS A READ ONLY PROPERTY

That works in all views when the Callouts are Detail Views/Wall Section/Building - When you invoke the Callout command >>> select appropriate type/one of the above from the type selector...

In case of Plane views, if you do not select "Detail View", the Callout will be a "Floor Plan" associated with the original view (hence the Read Only Parameter).

Wow! Is that supposed to be fast, lol! It's quicker to redo the whole operation, which is of course really inconvenient and unproductive.

Instead of a simple one step operation, you are now lucky enough to have to spend your late nights following that whole rigmaral. Nice!

Hi RDAOU,
When dealing with call-outs, if plan view callouts are always locked to Floor Plan once built that way by default would it be wise to make myself always start them out as Detail View instead? Is there ANY reason to make a Floor Plan? I constantly need to re-order my call-out hierarchies to clarify and add overall views, etc. Copy/pasting them and losing track of the outlines and the annotations, etc., is infuriating. If I can just remember to switch to Detail View initially for all call-outs is that a stupid idea?
