Callout Head Family

I want to add a label that is an instance parameter to the callout head family but the "create new label" is greyed out because it looks like the labels are prefixed and locked. Is there a way to still have reference information to detail and sheet number with an editable label that is an instance parameter in the family?

No, I don't think that's possible.

Hi,

What are you trying to achieve with the new parameter? The family only allows you to use one of these:

Are you trying to use the same references for other callouts? If so, check these settings when placing the callout:

Yes. In just a couple simple steps.

1. Open callout head family.

2. Place any label from the built in ones, doesn't matter which one, where you want it.

3. Switch family category to "Door tags".

4. Edit the label that you placed, click on add parameter. This will open a window to add a shared parameter.

5. Click "Select", click "Edit", create a new shared parameter (if needed in a new group, name it, set its data type, everything that you usually do for shared parameters), add it to the label and delete what ever was there before.

6. Now cut that label, that's the cut to clipboard cut, not Revits cut geometry cut (ctrl+X).

7. Switch family category back to Callout Heads.

8. Do a "Paste – Aligned to same place".

9. Insert the family into project.

10. In the project go to Manage – Project Parameters – Add – Shared parameter - select the same parameter that you inserted in the family, set it as instance, for category select "Views".

11. Now when you select callout there should be a new property, in its properties, under the category that the data type shared parameter was created.

If you get stuck somewhere holler for help.

Can't take the credit, it's a pretty old trick.

@blank... Well, at any rate, thank you for sharing the steps. I am going to try this with our Title Marker family.

If you're talking about viewport title, no need for tricks with it, you can normally add shared parameter to it.
