for our team we would like to transfer a large group of standard details into Revit. What would be the best practice for this? save as groups, or as families.. how do you guys manage such assets? we cant directly use those as are from their source because hatches and dimensions need to be implemented in Revit.. the main question however is how and where to save those in which form..

did this in my office a number of years ago. what we did in my office is create library files by disciplines that host all our details. The CAD details are imported into a Drafting View in the library file and cleaned up. Then they can be imported into project using the Insert from File tool. it will take some time to get all set up, but its worth it, at least in my opinion :-).
Attached are the instruction's I wrote for my BIM Coordinators to import CAD details and create a Library file. the instructions are a couple years old but should still apply.
