BIM360 link update workflow

I'm not sure if this is a BIM360 or a Revit issue, or perhaps it's both. Our client sends us a Revit model of a store layout, which we then place into BIM360, and link into our architecture model. The plan from the client needs to be in BIM360 so our other consultants who all have their models on BIM360 can see the link too. Now there is an issue whenever they send us an updated version of the file, when we update the link all the view template work across the architecture model is lost. We have to go back through, adjust halftones, line overrides, workset viability, ect across all our view templates. In Revit 2020 we figured out a workflow to avoid this, but it doesn't seem to work in 2022.

Workflow:

We take the updated merch plan (client model), and give it the exact same name as the old merch plan. Then, we go into the BIM360 console and delete the old version. Next, we open the re-named, updated merch plan, and use the "Collaborate in Cloud" button in the collaborate tab in order to send it to the BIM360 cloud (img 1). We then sync, and publish the new model. Once it's finished publishing, we open the arch model, and when we go to "reload" the link, the link is broken for some reason. Even though the file has the exact same name, and is saved in the exact same location, the link is broken. The only way to get the link to work again is to use the "Reload from..." button, and this button resets all view template work.

Is there a way to change our workflow to avoid this issue?

@ryley.g.h instead of creating a new work-sharing model. you can upload a Revit file through desktop connector instead. This way the GUID is still the same. I would recommend after each update have everyone "sync" in desktop to make sure they are loading the latest and greatest version, sometimes Revit has issues with not always loading the latest version using this method.

How do you update the link?

The workflow is listed above:

Essentially, we are replacing the old file with the new. In the AutoCAD days we would just save-as and overwrite the old file, but we can't do that as BIM360 won't allow it.

I've been battling with this workflow for about an hour now...

Half the time the sync button works, half the time it just pops up for a split second and doesn't sync. Ever had that happen to you?

When I go to the Revit link button this is what I see:

The file has been synced, this is what I see:

BIM360 this is what I see:

Am I missing something here? Why is the link not appearing? I get the same result if it's a central model.

I had to always reload link from when using this workflow to ensure that latest version was being pulled down.

You may get a better answer from the Cloud Worksharing forum.
