Hi! Question for experienced architects or BIM-managers.
On a new job my team model facades as Parts, because previous BIM-manager told them so. Question is why not curtain walls?
From my point modeling as Parts can be a huge mess. It's much harder to edit and even harder to edit on curved walls. Maybe I'm wrong?
Note that it's simple facades with metalic panels and there is no requirements in documentation how facades should be modelled.
Another and main question, how do you model facades? Share your experience

we use Curtain walls for Facades all the time for interior and exterior wall cladding.
you simply make some custom panels for the different materials you want. then assign the panels to the Curtain Panel option in the curtain wall. set your panel size and if you want any mullions or not. you may need to offset your panel if you want to show any "structure" behind the panels.

attached is a example file with a curtain wall. this one is designed to have the horizontal mullions placed manually since the sizes very. once there place the panels can be replaced as desired.

There is no such thing as BIM correct and BIM wrong
How you model a façade can vary from project to project depending on the type of façade, form/shape, the level of detail you are planning to achieve, the defined LOD and where/to whom is this model going to later on (export to Solibri/Orca/RIB i2/IFC...etc)
The statement you made about the instruction of the previous BIM manager cannot be 100% accurate because parts is not something you model a façade with. "Model a façade with something which can be later converted or used as Parts" sound more right. Hence, if the previous BIM manager asked them to do one thing in a specific way, all I can say is "he must have had a good reason"...
Simply placing a curtain wall is easy and quick BUT using elements which can be converted to parts is not wrong; as a matter of fact, the advantage of parts compliant element over curtain walls is that parts can definitely offer you more in terms of
Apart from that, curtain walls do have some issues when exported to IFC and scheduling/quantification when exported to some 3rd party costing/quantification software...Revit has a bunch of tools which one may use for various purposes. Some tools has certain limitations, some has certain cons and pros compared to another...who decides? It is the BIM manager's call...
How do I model a façade? I believe I have used all the tools in Revit and I do not have a preference unless it is a special type of façade
