Best way to copy paste existing elements from another project

Hey guys out trying to figure out the best way to copy all the existing elements from a project and copy them and then paste them into a different project. Basically we had a remodel project going but then the customer decided they wanted to build a new house based off of house we had already done in Revit from another project. So rather than use the existing project and re-draw the new house, we decided to start from that house project and then re-draw the property lines and existing elements from the project.

So what I’m trying to do is copy all the walls, windows, everything from the remodel project and then paste it into the new project and then move it to where it needs to be. So I have a 3-D view and I changed The phase and phase filter to be existing and show only the existing elements. I then select everything. When I hit control C to copy Revit shows a warning dialog box that says some elements won’t be copied. The only option is to then hit cancel and nothing is then copied to my clipboard. If I expand the dialog box and look at what elements are causing the problems... it is actually elements from the new construction which were not selected. The only workaround I can think of is to delete those elements in new construction so they won’t be a part of the selection but this seems like a weird way to do it. Can anyone think of a good way to copy the elements that I want and paste them into the new project?

Thanks.

Why don't you just save the project under a new name?  Bada Bing!

I'd Link the File  into the new file , put into the new position as Linked Revit, then Bind Link to the Project as a Group, and finally you can Ungroup and make changes (or within the Group)

Go suggestion from @constantin.stroescu, but my reading was that you were starting a new Project from scratch and wanted to copy over as much as you can from another completed project to save you some time. What about Views, Sheets, etc., etc.?  Those would be nice to have as well; right?

Wow bind link and ungroup would have been perfect! Then I could have stayed in the same project. Thanks!

Because then you'd have to change lots of project info, template may not match etc etc. It is mind boggling that this extremely expensive software can't do a simple thing like copy a large batch of elements from one project to another.

It's really not helpful to suggest your own alternatives... 'but why would you do that... wouldn't ______ be better... just change the name... etc.' We work in this field, and this software, everyday- we have good reasons for the work flows we desire. I have yet to see one of these suggestions which wasn't something I'd already thought of but rejected for this reason or that.  These forums shouldn't drag on for pages and pages and years and years... over the same questions!

Thanks for this explanation. Any thoughts of why binding the link doesn't work in my case? Any general troubleshooting tips for that?

The solution stated above doesn't Appear to apply Revit Architecture LT 2022.

Is bind link not available on Revit Architecture LT 2022?

You guys really like to go the long way, don't you?  Instead of link + bind + ungroup, load the model in you project directly as a group.  Or is it also not available in Revit LT?

Also, with either method, you will lose all phasing of the original model after bring it in yours.
