Best Practices Help: Spec project line setup

We have developed a set of spec models for a builder and are at the point where we need to start adding them to the actual site locations to create building permits for each lot. I can see two possible options:

1) Set up a base model with main floor at 0'-0" and xref into each site. (Does this also import the pages and all 2D information as well and can we set the geodetic import location (z particularly) to locate the model at the correct elevation?

2) Copy/Save As the base model for each client. We need to move the building and all 2D information up or down to match the new geodetic location. this is time intensive when there are up to 15 pages per building to update. (Is there an easy way to move all the 2D info on all sheets at the same time as the levels and models?)

Is there perhaps another way that I am missing? Any help would be appreciated!

The same way we do large sites with multiple buildings.

Use a 100' base elevation (or 0', depending on how you have your building base plans set up) for the first floor. All dimensions and elevations are from that model's base elevation. Print all building documentation from the master for that building type.

Create your site model for each site per your option 1.

Link the appropriate base plan into the site model, placing the first floor at the correct elevation for the site and rotating (and or mirroring and/or any other site transformations) as required. Then Pin it in place.

Print all site related documents from the site model. Note on the site drawings that building elevation of 100.0' (or 0', whatever you used in the models) = xxx.xx (x's being the actual sea level elevation).

All of that being said, you will still probably want a duplicate of the base model for each site if there is any possibility of individual customization or deviation from the "spec" model so your spec models stay pristine.

Easy as pie, with just as many tasty slices.
