Hi fellas!
We're about to start a quick guide for quantity take offs and perhaps even cost estimates at our office.
But I would like to hear your best tips & tricks regarding this matter.
- Do you use Revit, Solibri or some other software?
- Whats your workflow?
- Do you get into problems often, if so, what kind of mistakes have you encountered and how do you avoid them?
Thanks in advance!
Even though I don't have an answer, I'm posting just cause I think your question is interesting and wanna refresh the page / see responses myself. Wall layer wrapping is not recognized in Revit material take-offs. For example, I heard that some people are using Dynamo to calculate the surface of the facade...I wonder what would be most precise (and convenient) calculation.
I spoke with some people who work at a company which produces aluminium composite panels. They said that before making an offer, they always manually calculate the quantities based on some project (they check the accuracy of a take-off). Projects they checked were usually done in Revit. If this project predicted more than 100 windows, then the difference between their calc and the one done in Revit has some significance. But they said, its not jus about windows...People usually don't have time to model every detail....

Didn't see the topic and just posted a question regarding the same subject, even though I was a little more specific (talking about walls and its materials). I also don't have an answer (yet). I'm a beginner on quantities in Revit too and I want to follow the discussion in this topic. I'm still very confused about Material Take offs and Component Schedules, not sure which one to use given any specific moments, but since I'm a student and new to quantity schedules in general, I think this is natural of the learning process.
Best regards.
Make walls into Parts, then create a Parts Schedule.
