Hi,
I am unable to find a detailed description of expected syntax for how to subtract a number from a parameter in a calculated field.
I would like to subtract 4" from the Width parameter of a door.
Here are the combinations I have tried in the calculated value formula window for a new calculated field in my door schedule:
parameter selected from list minus a number: Width -4
error received: inconsistent units
retyped as: Width-4"
error received: inconsistent units
retyped as: Width-.33
error received: inconsistent units
retyped as Width -4 (space added between Width and -)
error received: inconsistent units
retyped as Width -0'4"
error received: inconsistent units
I understand this is not Excel world, and an equals sign is not needed in front of the expression (receive error message: Operator not expected:=)
Where can I find instructions on basic syntax for mathematical expressions in a calculated field?
The help documentation I have found does not start at this basic level.
thanks in advance for any help.

Check here:
@mmcintosh-ral Pay attention to the type of data of the calculated value. If you make it as "Length", it will work with:
Width - 4".
Look at the highlighted setting:
Thank You Alfredo!
Great information that I could not find anywhere else.
