Beam Non-typical Beam Joins

I have a condition where I need to have some short 4x4s connect to other 4x4s perpendicular to the short ones, and at different heights. I used reference plans (highlighted below) and ‘cut geometry’ to get the shorter members to frame cleanly to the sides of the longer ones. Is there an easier way? I tried doing this with ‘beam joins’, but that didn’t seem to work. Thank you. Illustrations of this are below.3D3DElevationElevation

What are you wanting to do?  Want do you mean by "cleanly" join?

I would like the sloping members to fit flush to the sides of the horizontals ones as shown in the 2 sketches in my original post. Without cutting the geometry, I get gaps between the members as shown below.

Well then, you need a beam family that is shaped that way.

What you did is a clever way to deal with it.

You can also use Opening by face tool to trim the beams.

Thank you both. I'll need to look at how to get a beam shaped that way, and how Opening By Face works.
