Beam Annotation tool not working

I have a student that cannot get the beam annotation to work for him, & I cannot figure out why. Both the structural tag & spot elevation can be place individually & they are both set to rotate with component. The beams are in a linked file, & the include elements from linked files box is checked. The ceiling plan is set to wireframe. What else could be causing the tool not to work?

Are the Beams actually in the Current View (e.g. not in Underlay)?

Yes, there is no underlay being applied. It works for other students, so it is a setting that is different, but I cannot figure out which one.

I can select the beam from within the linked file, but don't understand what that has to do with the Beam Annotation tool not working?

If the select links was 'X'd then you wouldn't be able to select anything in the link when tagging.

Thanks for the idea, but I just tested that & the Select Link toggle does not affect the Beam Annotation tool. In another project I was able to use the Beam Annotation tool to tag the beams in a linked structural file with the X disabling Select Link showing.

I figured it out. It was the Discipline. The Discipline was set to Mechanical & the tool does not see the beams in Mechanical. Once it was changed to Coordination, the beams could be tagged. Thanks anyway!
