Batt Insulation in Wall Sections

Please tell me I am wong here,

But is Revit 2020 NOT able to show batt insulation on a wall section? This seems pretty common sense stuff so am I just missing something here? Or is Autodesk really this stupid

Thanks,

Stephen L

I'd really love for them to make a way to have it show in wall sections like a material. :neutrales_Gesicht:

this is what I was originally looking for. So there is no way to insert batt insulation into the wall assembly? Id like for the insulation to be automated when I cut my sections.

You can...it just looks like yuck in floor plans.

Now....if we could use filters on materials, then it would work.

@Anonymous , tangentially related, but do you know if the insulation can be embedded into the wall (e.g. 6" wood stud layer with a 6" embedded batt insulation layer)? I'd figure I just just tweak the material properties to always hide the insulation but it would be nice to automatically have it there for when I run my energy simulations. Thanks!

I think part of the issue is, the wall layer with batt insulation isn't just batt insulation, it also has studs. Unlike a continuous layer of rigid insulation applied to the outside of a stud, the batts are in between studs. And the walls in Revit treat each layer as homogeneous.

I guess that could be added as a feature if you want to add it to the idea forum. Until then using the annotation tools seems to work. But adding studs and cavities to the wall function also would require some sort of rule for stud spacing, studs around openings etc. it could get quite complex I assume and looks like over-modeling from my point. I doubt many people would want to model all the studs, and it sure would take computing resources.

If you want to make the batt layer in the wall just that, you could play with the material properties of that layer and pretend there are no studs. Maybe it can be made to look like batt insulation when cut.

Revit version: R2025.4
