I have 3D CAD with all of the contour lines connected and assigned to the correct elevation, which I've brought into revit 2024 to make a toposolid. For some reason, it either creates pyramids at sharp corners, or completely ignores the stacked contours (these are site walls or podiums for ex. Is there any way around this? I spent a long time stitching together CAD files from various consultants and it's a shame that it's failing at the last step here. Not sure if there are any tricks to getting the toposolid to follow the contours more 1:1. I've also tried this with revit 2022 to the same results, so it's making me think it's something on my end. Thanks for your help, see attached images. and attached .dwg.
One of the podium conditions, you can see more beyond.
In plan, contour lines stack vertically.
Revit toposolid changes on a whim to move back from stacked contour.
and in plan.
Another Option: Create a Toposurface from DWG in Revit 2023 and upgrade/insert it into your 2024 Project.
Looks like I'm still getting the same issue at vertically stacked contours in R23 - is this just a limitation of the triangulation calculations, where they can't have lines (and therefore surface points) stacked on top of each other?
For reference I'm hoping to have something more like this, which I did as stacked planes in rhino for reference:
Where there's a solid, flat section flanked by the descending lines. (This is as flat layers a la a chipboard model but want this as a something similar in the triangulated toposolid mesh for taking views)
Thanks.
I am not quite sure I understand what it is you want to do. Vertical Edges? You can do Vertical Edges in Toposurfaces (2023 and earlier) using the Building Pad Tool, and in 2024/2025 Toposolids with other joining or cutting Toposolids or Masses.
Modify sub-elements and use split lines and modify the endpoint elevations to get the desired outcome.
I am having issues as well with Toposolid accuracy.
For your application did you try using a 'Gridded' DWG topography export from your CAD software? Was it Civil 3D or do you not have access to that data?
Without Gridded Overaly
