Backwards casework family preview in Properties

I have just finished developing a whole bunch of casework families. Now when I insert them into a test Project, the preview in the Properties dialog is BACKWARDS!

Capture.PNG

I have already -

1) clicked SaveAs and changed the preview thumbnail

2) clicked the View Cube to set the desired view as the Home view

3) clicked the View Cube to set my thumbnail view to front

AND THE PREVIEW STILL LOOKS THE SAME!!!

However - get this - in the Recent Files - the preview looks beautiful. Go figure.

I saw a thread in this regards that started in 2010. Don't get me wrong - I love Revit, I really do - but when it makes my lovely work look bad (yes, ALL of my new Casework families have backwards previews) I am NOT happy!

Totally guessing here...

Maybe the preview doesn't get refreshed every time you "Load to Project" again?

What happens if you totally purge the family from the project file and load it anew?

if there are no "model" changes on reload, Revit will not reload the family (and doesn't tell you either). Solution: for a random parameter type in the same value, and this will count as model change.

@chrisplyler Purged. Reloaded. No go.

@FAIR59 - will try that when I get back into work!

Isn't is a known issue? Maybe the template was created by Kevin Spacey?

This is another issue that has been known for years, but it doesn't get fixed.

I see an email coming soon saying that we should submit this as an idea. Smiley Wink

Okay, so what happens when you rotate all the geometry around 180-deg right in the family?

@chrisplyler Did it. Also told the view cube that Front is Back. Set it as Home View. No go. Preview in folder looks awesome. Preview in Properties looks aweless. Ripping my hair out here.

The only thing that I have found that works for me is to flip the geometry in the family so that Front points Up.

For longer lasting results - create a custom Casework template. Open the OOTB Casework template,  flip the reference planes so that Front points Up, save as a family, and then change the extension from RFA to RFT.

Dear Autodesk how is this issue solved?

So you suggest that solution is to model families backwards so that they appear correctly in the family type browser??

That is certainly not the right solution.

Please fix the template or tell us a workaround until this is done.

See the second part of the solution. Create a custom template.

Hallo, das ist sowas von nervig, und die vorgeschlagene Lösung ist inakzeptabel. Seit Jahren wird die Vorschau falsch dargestellt, obwohl man die Familie mit der Vorschau richtig anzeigt
