Avoid exporting certain layers when exporting to CAD

Hi all,

I'm trying to export some backgrounds to consultants and I would like Revit to export my drawings without anotations, dimensions, wall patterns..

Do you know of a way of 'turning off' those layers when exporting to CAD, without having to create different views?

Thank you,

Why not just export the Model?

Why not creating a view?

Otherwise consider the following:

-Create a view template where you arrange to swith off annotations etc.

-Use the "Temporaily Apply Template Properties". and apply the view template

-Export that view to Autocad

-Select Restore View Properties

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Hi Barth Bradley,

Thanks for your prompt response! What do you mean by exporting the model?

I am trying to export backgrounds to consultants, and we don't want to show them the finish layer in walls, or the wall pattern layer, or dimensions.. Is there a way to 'turn off' these layers? Our consultants all work in CAD.

Thanks!

Why not create views for exporting?

Duplicating a view without the annotations is easy. All that you need to do after that is turn off the wall patterns.

I like @L.Maas 's suggestion to temporarily apply a view template, also.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi L.Maas,

I like the "Temporary View Properties" idea. This allowed me to turn off most of the things I needed. They only last thing I need to avoid exporting is the wall finish lines. We want plumbing to work only with the wall structure width rater than the finish to finish width. Do you know how I can 'turn off' that layer, in the Visibility and graphics pop out?

Thanks,

Change the detail level of the walls to coarse.

We always have dedicated views with dedicated view templates for exporting.

I just keep views that are strictly for background exports that have everything they don't need turned off.  They never get deleted as there is no reason to.
