Automatically scaling/sizing raster images in Revit (2020)?

Hi all,

I imported a pdf into a 2-D Revit view to compare my work to what's on the pdf by overlaying. However this is proving impossible because I have no way of manually making the imported pdf the exact same size as my Revit drawing.

Does anyone know a way to have Revit (2020) automatically scale/size a raster image based on the size of a drawing made in Revit?

All help is appreciated :)!

Thanks in advance,

If you know the scale of the PDF you can enter it from the PDF properties after linking it in.  For example, the PDF scale is 3/16" = 1' and I entered 64 to the PDF properties.

If the PDF has no scale then you can use Scale tool to scale it based on a known dimension, for example you know the building length is 100' then scale the PDF using that length as the input and enter 100' as the output.

Thank you, this is super helpful! But how did you get from (3/16" = 1') to a scale of 64?

Plus I'm really concerned about the actual size of the pdf image rather than its scale.

Math:

3/16" = 1'

3/16" = 12"

1/16 = 4

1 = 4 * 16

1 = 64

Some typical scales"

1/16" = 1' -> 1 : 192

3/32" = 1' - > 1 : 128

1/8" = 1' -> 1 : 96

1/4" = 1' -> 1 : 48

1/2" = 1' -> 1 : 24

1-1/2" = 1' -> 1 : 8

3" = 1' -> 1 : 4

It depends.  Does the PDF image have any dimensions that you can rely on?  Was it printed from a vector program, such as AutoCAD or was it scanned from a paper drawing or a page of a book.  Maybe share the PDF here for a better understanding.

Unfortunately the pdf is private company material that I can't share. But yes, it has dimensions that I can rely on! Can I somehow use these to size it properly?

See an example using Scale tool to scale a PDF.  I use Revit 2022 so I can turn on Snap for the PDF, if you don't have that option then you need to eyeball it.

This allows me to set the scale of the image properly, yes. But again, I'm concerned with the actual size of the image rather than the scale.

On one hand, you said the PDF have dimensions you can reply on.  On the other, you are concerned that it isn't reliable.  I don't know what else to say.

I'm sorry if I was unclear; here's what I was trying to say...

I understand how to set the scale now, which I appreciate. However I'm not looking to properly scale the image for dimensions/measurements/etc, but rather adjust the actual SIZE of the pdf so that it matches exactly, in size, with what I have in my Revit drawing.

Are you saying you need the PDF to be full scale 1 : 1?
