AutoCAD file not showing up in REVIT

Hello,

I have been trying to link the autocad file to Revit and I have checked all the necessary steps but its showing in 3D view only. It doesn't appear in any other views. Please suggest something.

hello, if youre going to link cad into revit you must consider current view only, positioning and place at. if you cannot see your link cad you have to go to visibility graphics > tick imported categories.

 And go to your autocad drawing move insertion points to 0,0 before linking to autocad. thanks

Try relink it Center to Center.  If you want the CAD file to be 2D only, meaning only appear in the View you link it in, then check the box Visible in current View only.

Click the box on Imported Categories to show all the imported categories in the particular view.

Check "Show crop region" and "Crop view", the CAD file may be outside the crop region.

• It could also be  due to the fact that the import object has been drawn at a large distance from its origin
• Revit places the import’s world origin at the Revit project’s internal origin. This may cause the link to display at a large distance from the model. To test this, set the zoom to Zoom View to Fit.
• Auto - Origin to Origin is the default positioning when you insert a Revit model or CAD file. As suggested by @ToanDN try center to center.

Note: If you change the default, the option you select for Positioning becomes the default for the current Revit session. The software remembers one default option for Revit models and another default option for CAD files.

Also, can you send us a screenshot of your view range settings?

one more note based on experience. Sometimes Revit does not set correct units of the linked cad file and this will end up being tiny, hidden under modeled elements. So another solution is center to center, current view only and set units manually.

Thank you all for your comments. I tried everything really...but nothing worked. May be the autoCAD file has some issues, may be the XREF's or some constraint. I will have to go back and check the Auto CAD file. But thank you all.

@Anonymous hello, it could be your autocad has issues. try to audit, purge, overkill, clean as much posiible. if there are xref's attched try to bind and try to link again using manual base point and see if helps. thanks

Hello All,

It took me a while to come back to this post. My apologies. I checked that the files were done in sketchup and then the file assigned as .3ds. When I converted into AutoCAD, I have lost all the properties of it. Is it possible to import 3ds file in REVIT. 

For this particular file, I went to Mangae->Object style->Imported Objects but then there is no layer or anything attached to it.

Try to give some material to 3ds file else its tough to get them showing on plan, elevation etc..

I have attached revit and cad file fixing the issue you faced..

Hello Ganesh,

The file was done in sketchup and was saved as 3ds. They have specified the materials in the sketchup file. I was able to open the file in REVIT but the characteristics were missing.

I tried to open the sketchup file but it's showing error.

Materials assigned in a SketchUp file won't come in Revit.  Use layers to separate different materials then use Object styles - Imported Objects to assign materials in Revit.
