Attach Structural Column to Wall

I'm working with structural columns for a covered porch. I  can easily attach the base to the concrete floor, however; I need to attach it to concrete piers instead.

I am modeling the concrete pier as a basic masonry wall. I am not getting the option to attach the column to the wall.

Is it possible to attach columns to walls? Or is there a rule against this?

Draw a Reference Plane to use as the Attach Top/Base Target.

...just to confirm: you are taking about Attach Top/Base not Join Geometry; right?

Draw the pier caps using Floor then you can attach the base of the columns to them. Or draw a ref plane on elevation view and attach to it.

@barthbradley That is correct. I will try out using reference planes.

However, it would be nice to join to a wall. The attach/detach feature is very quick and easy. I often use walls to represent beams because I can move them around easily. Attaching the column to these mock beams would be useful.

Concerning joining geometry, which you brought up, are columns unable to use that join geometry feature? I notice that when I select the join geometry tool I am unable to select the column.
