Attach North Arrow to Right Grip of View Title?

Attach North Arrow to Right Grip of View Title?

Is there a way to attach a North arrow to the right grip of the view title line?  So if the view title line gets longer, the North arrow goes with it?  See attached image for how I'd like it to look, so that I can put the north arrow in the view title and it automatically be in the right place and rotation.  Thanks!

one of our clients had that requirement. What i ended up doing is place the nested the North arrow in the view Title family. Then constrained it with a Type Parameter to the reference plane next to the bubble.

then in the project file i have a handful of View Titles with different lengths (3", 4", 6", etc...). the appropriate title can be placed or changed depending on the view title length.

you can also set it as a standard distance in the View title family. then when placing the title text use CTRL+ENTER to break the text into 2 lines.

Does this solution allow you to apply a rotation to the north arrow?

That is possible, yes.

Is there any way you can provide a little more detail? I tried to set up a shared parameter for the north arrow angle, and I assigned it to Views through the Project Parameters dialog. I also linked the shared parameter to the rotation angle in the nested north arrow family. However, updating the parameter on the view does not rotate the arrow.

Not quite. I'm not worried about updating the angle manually. The problem is that I need the north arrow family to be part of the View Title and ALSO rotate based on a parameter. It's a pain to add it to each sheet with a plan view, and aligning it with the View Title on each plan view takes time. Plus if I need to move the View Title to make room for something else on the sheet, I can't select the View Title and the North Arrow Generic Annotation at the same time, so I have to move them one at a time and re-align them again, which makes it look sloppy since there are no snap points on the view title. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get the north arrow's rotation parameter to update once I've placed it in the View Title.

No, sadly. But we were able to find some compromises that work adequately for most projects. For starters, we started putting the North Arrow on the left side of the View Title text so it doesn't have to shift around with the text. As for the rotation angle, we were able to set it up using a Global Parameter to control the angle for all the views. This is not perfect though, since it doesn't let you make exceptions for rotated enlarged plans or the like. I have since switched companies, but the next step would have been to embed 4 north arrows in the view title at 90degree rotations from each other, with visibility parameters so you could have a drawing North/East/West/South view title type for the four cardinal angles. Edit: To clarify, they would all rotate with the global parameter, so if north is at 95 degrees instead of 90, east would be at 5, west would be at 185, etc.

Yea I was shooting to have the north arrow to the left of the view title myself, that's our standard, so wasn't worried about some of the other issues you were having. Appreciate the feedback! I just added invisible line circle to the view title family, and although you can snap to it, it serves as a guide for our north arrow family and we just insert as needed per plan, with a rotational instance parameter. I think my previous firm had some Dynamo script setup to make this work properly as part of the view title, but could be mistaken.
