Array Direction Problems

As a busy Architect, trying to make a living, I usually enjoy using Revit but sometimes I spend ages pulling my hair out in frustration.  This is one of those times;

I have created many arrays in my time with Revit but today it will just not do what I want.  I am trying to produce a panel with horizontal grooves in it. To do this I have a created a solid extrusion, as the panel, its gauge going from front to back.  The grooves are void extrusions, within the solid panel, going from left to right on the rear of the panel, or at least they are meant to. The initial one to be arrayed is fine but on trying to array it from its position to a  Reference plane near the top of the panel gives me one of two results.  After starting with the number of copies in the array starting as 2, then applying a parameter to the number, I have the second in the correct place but the remaining in the same place as the first or they additional are shown below the first with the second moved to just above the first.  Hopefully the images below will illustrate this better than my explanation.

Image 1.  Shows the panel with the void to be arrayedImage 1.  Shows the panel with the void to be arrayed

Image 2: Shows the void selected and the settings for the arrayImage 2: Shows the void selected and the settings for the array

Image 3: Shows the array of 10, but with only 2 visibleImage 3: Shows the array of 10, but with only 2 visible

Image 4: shows the initial void for the array selected but the properties dialog indicates 8 picked!Image 4: shows the initial void for the array selected but the properties dialog indicates 8 picked!

Image 5: shows the array taken below the initial selection wit the second brough down to it!Image 5: shows the array taken below the initial selection wit the second brough down to it!

Can anyone explain to me what is happening here please?

When you click from one end of the array to the other end, click from left to right - or beginning to end. Seems as though you are clicking from right to left.

What I like to do is place the element at the 2nd position, instead of at the end. When Revit places object #2, i can place a Spacing parameter between them, and edit the number of objects to whatever I want it to be. I can also govern the number of the array by a formula driven parameter - where ArrayNumber = Length / Spacing.

Once again, this is the least frustrating method that has worked for me.

All else failing, please share the file.

In fact you describe exactly how I did it.  I used the number 2, as last, clicked directly up, then changed the number to 10 from 2.  Find the file attched to see if you can help me.

Thanks.

Worked perfectly for me.

Here it is - step by step -

1) Select the void and its reference plane

2) Modify>>Array

Capture.PNG

3) Click on the selected reference plane

4) Click on the destination (I placed mine 200 away)

5) Change the number of instances

6) This is what I end up with -

Good luck!
