Hello,
I have several units (apartments) modeled as separate RVT links. They contain rooms and areas as well.
The units are grouped by floors.
The problem is that these groups show everywhere in the Area plans.
I am looking at the garage level area plan, and I can touch the groups for the units from level2, 3, 4, and 5.
View range is correct.
So, per every area plan I have to go in and "Element Hide" in view all groups that do not belong to that level...
Is this normal?
thank you
Let me make sure I understand...
You've modeled each "floor" as a separate file, and then linked them all into a "master" file?
Then...
1. They don't need to be grouped. Each link will act as a whole, without you having to group anything.
2. If you modeled each floor at the default zero elevation in its own file, then when you link them into the master file, they are all at zero elevation in the master file also. So that's one possible reason they all show up in the same floor plan view...because they ARE all there at the same elevation. You would have to move each one up to the appropriate elevation in the master file.
Yeah, sorry, I haven't been clear.
The single units are linked, then instances are placed in the mail model, and moved/rotated/mirrored in the right location in space, and grouped by floor.
This is because the floors are very similar and the layout repeats enough to justify a group. On specific floors the group has some excluded units and some units are instead located individually.
Now, every units has its own rooms and ... one area.
In order to be able to show the area I have to make an area plan in each unit, then link that view in the host model area plan view.
This means than each RVT unit link will have custom graphics setting by link view (the unit area plan), and "color scheme" by host view.
This allows me to set the colors of the area plan color scheme in the host model / area plan.
If the geometric elements of units in the 5th floor do not show on the 3rd floor (for example), the areas do.
It appears that linking the area plan treats the color fill of the area like detail, and shows everywhere you link that view, even if the actual instance is way above or below the cut level (of the area plan).
Also, I have been "Hiding Element" in view, in order to hide the groups of units I did not want to see; however, incredibly, everytime I reapply the view template, or reloaded the units, the visibility setting would be reset, and all groups would show again!
I had to create a workset for every sets of units by floor, like the groups, and turn them off where I don't want to see them.
Hope this was clearer,
Thank you for responding,
Regards
Gio
