Area tag, Lookup table for Landscaping Purposes

Hi Autodesk Forum

I am working in a landscaping Architect company and would like to optimise or workflow when calculating amount of plants.

My idea was to use areas to determine where a certain plant species should be, and there after use tagging to showing the amount of plants needed to cover that area. Using a shared parameter with the spacing from plants. I got this far but would like to automate it even further if possible.

I would ideally like to be able to write in the Plant ID in the area instance parameter, and then have it lookup for the rest of the parameters from the excel. Like "Plant Botanical Name, Plant Common Name, Plant Spacing, Pot Size" Because there is often changes in species during the project and i would like to ensure that the quantity and Names in schedules will always update.

I have tried with lookup tables but without much luck, i cant seem to find a way to make it work on an area, since it isn't a family. And it also seems like you can't use lookup tables for Text formats, Like Botanical name and Common Name.

Currently we have a list of 800+ Species and it is getting updated all the time, so the solution need to be able to handle that.

I am open to all suggestions

I am just analyzing this like a mathematical formula.

Area=A

Pot Size=R (for "Rootball")

Pot Spacing=PS

Plant Botanical Name=BN

Plant Common Name=CN

A/(R+PS)=Number of BNs (a.k.a. CNs) needed to fill A.

What would you like Revit to optimize?

Create a Key Schedule for Area to populate plant information when you select a Key.

What i would like to change is that currently we in the office have a long Excel sheet with all the species.

And i would like that from only writing in the ID It would go and fetch the Botanical name, and the Common name for scheduling. The calculation part i have already figured.

But thank you for input.

Thank you so much for input, it is very much something like this i had in mind, would prefer the lookup table to be external, Because i am not sure how well it will work to incorporate a 800+ list of items to the office Template. But i will experiment a bit, i didn't think about key schedules a all! Will keep you updated on the result.

No; thank you for your inquiry.  Definitely maybe something that can work someday.
