Using Revit LT I recall using a window type that I could manually alter in 3D or elevation views. When selected, arrows would show up on the top, bottom and both sides of the window which I could grab and adjust the window size manually without using the properties tab or editing the family
Though I actually have a region selected in the attached image, what I am talking about would have the window selected and the same arrows show up.
Within the family the parameters you want to adjust need to be instance parameters and they need to be dimensioning to reference planes that are set to strong or weak references in their properties.
