Hi guys, the company I am working for are wanting to explore using Revit to model our MEP designs we are currently using archicad for this....(dont ask). we also model our architecture in Archicad .
I have been tasked with delivering an M&E project in revit but i am having a couple of problems with the information exchange between IFC and revit. all my elements are classified in Archicad so they are able to be seen in revit but we are still finding a couple of anomolies.
1) Space data.... in archicad it is known as zones, in revit as spaces but we can seem to get our zones to show as spaces in revit. am i right in thinking i need to play with IFC option settings within revit? (see attached)
2) Ceilings , suspended ceiling show up in revit although the only face we can connect to in revit is the opposite side (ceiling void side) to place light fittings.
3) Doors, doors are appearing when we link into revit although first floor doors also appear on ground floor and all doors are slightly out of place.
any help or work arounds you can think of would be of great help to me but I am trying to solve the root causes primarily than use a work around. I do not have a massive knowledge of Revit I know how to model, get by and a bit more.
unfortunately that is the case.
I have not had much success without adjusting the IFC Templates to translate Archicad to Revit
confirm you are using the latest IFC version and check settings.
I always had to manually adjust things in my model after the translation.
once in Revit create your new rooms / spaces as needed disregard the translation of zones , rooms, spaces
as long as there are valid walls windows doors Revit will allow you to create spaces or rooms whichever you need
sorry if this is nor much help
cheers for the reply, what kind of changes did you make to the template? did you get the same problems as mine in regards to the doors and ceilings , I can work around the spaces but the doors and ceilings i'll struggle with when i have to do a lighting drawing. is the a way to fix these?
I ended up making my own ceilings and some doors can be rehosted into the Revit walls
for me it was quicker to do this than to troubleshoot and solve
