applying part of an image for decal

I am trying to apply decals of the same image to a series of folded planes (fins), so that the total image reads when all of the fins are lined up.  Confused yet?  I've attached an image to show where I'm starting.  In my mind, I would apply the same decal to each fin and shift the decal a little bit at each one to pick up where the image left off on the previous fin.  The trouble is, when I try to shift the decal over seemingly on its associated plane, I get an error message that the "Decal does not lie on host."  This seems to happen when the lower left corner of the decal shifts off the host, but theoretically there is still part of the decal on the host.  Can I do what I'm wanting to do with Revit?  Or am I going to have to shift to Sketchup or even Photoshop?  This will be rendered on the cloud eventually, FYI...

Not sure I completely understand what you want to see in the final result, but have you thought about making materials for these instead of decals? You are always going to have a issue with decals and the host. But with materials, you can apply to any object.
