I'm using Revit 2018 and I'm having trouble assigning materials to an imported SAT file using object styles. The imported SAT file is not considered a specific layer and when I try to change the material it doesn't transfer over to the project.

when importing a sat file into Revit, look at the category you assigned it to prior to importing...use this category name and look for it under Object Styles...change the material there and it will change the entire SAT file to that material....I do not believe you can "paint" the material onto the SAT file to "color" it up...

If it's possible to break the geometry into separate files by material - please do. Make sure each has its own Subcategory
Insert them in to families, assign the material in Object Styles (tip - delete all materials except the one material that you need)
Nest into a 'parent' family. The subcategories and materials should come through - if not, use Transfer Project Standards to bring them in
create the families in revit 2016
revit 2016 and down, allows the user, to Import the .SAT file, to RESCALE IT,... EXPLODE IT,.. further sculpt the form using the void tools,.. assign a material parameter to the geometry,.. and assign the geometry to a SUB-Category.
revit 2017 and above...… don't allow for this.
