Apply a Decal on a Curved Surface

Is it possible to apply a decal to a curved surface?  I need to place an image on a wrapping projector screen.  When I try to place the decal, it only will choose 1 of the arcs or one of the straight peices.  I need the one decal to stretch over the entire projector screen.  Is this possible?  I have attached a screen shot so you can see what I am trying to achieve.

Thank you for your help!!

I don't think so.  You could try creating a new material with the image you want as the material map, and then paint the curved surface.  You'll have to monkey with the settings a little so that the image scales correctly and fits the screen area, but it should work.

A method could be...I did it using Revit and Photoshop

  • First in Revit draw the wall with fillet segment....put dimensions in plan and height - Image 1
  • go then in Photoshop , open there the bitmap you want to place on the wall ...make a segmentation with length and hights as in segment walls from Revit...make there 3 files one for each segment and save them at the same resolution - Image 2
  • come back into Revit and in Insert>Decal> Decal Types...load those 3 files made in Photoshop -Image 3
  • Then, from Place Decal , insert them one by one the 3 files (chose them from Properties)...strech them so as the Width of the decal to be the same with that of the wall segment. - Image 4 and 5
  • the renderered image can be seen in image 6

Worked a treat. 👍

Just note to other users, if the curved extrusion that you want to apply a decal  is quite long, then you will need to split the decal bitmap/jpeg into more segments for it to work. The number of segments the image needs splitting by will no doubt become more apparent when you give it a go first.

Thanks for the tip
