Hello,
So, I got a Revit file with some walls modelled as separate layers (structures being separated from the finishes). I don't like much modelling walls this way, but sometimes it may be necessary.
Anyway, modelling walls like these often doesn't correctly shows wraps when there are doors or windows inserted. Is there any solutions for that (without having to model the wall wraps as another wall)?
What I want to achieve is something like the image below:
Also, is there any proper way of showing the finish wrap in that direction?
So, I'm hoping for any good solutions! Thanks!
Not sure what a "Good Solution" would be in this case.
If you do the layers manually, you would need to do the wrap also manually. ie: Add the wrap layers and join geometry (GIF 1) ...otherwise add the wrap element in the window family itself

Are you saying that the finish wall layers are modeled as a separate wall type - not as a layer of a compound-layered assembly. If so, why not just model the wrap return using the same wall type? For heads and sill, use Floors of the same thickness/material as the finish wall type.
Hi @RDAOUand @barthbradley ,
This is what I often do, but I was thinking if there isn't any sort of "automatic" way of doing that, the same way we just select wall wraps sides in the family type. This way is a little time consuming, mainly if I have any changes in the doors, windows or other openings, and because I have to adjust these wrap heights manually. Anyway, is this the only way of doing?
Autodesk should definetely look forward to implement some feature regarding this, since many users (as far as I've been researching) are using solutions of modelling walls in a single type or multiple types in a hybrid way. In my view, there should be a way of making a wall type without a main structure - so we can make them as wraps -, and then it should be fine if different wall types would wrap automatically if they're just joined together, so we could have more control over that.
@barthbradleyWon't modelling sills and heads as floors mess up with my quantities in schedules?
Why not just paint the head, sill and jambs with the Finish Material using the Paint tool?
yeah, I did that, but even if it fixes for 3D views and elevations, it will still be broken when showing in plans and sections.
What about drawing it in Plan View using Masking Regions and Detail Lines?
Create the donut opening wrap as a shared architectural column family and nest it in your window family. It will join with the wall finish layers when placing the window in the wall.
This seems like a good solution indeed and I'll try tomorrow. My only question is if it will be shown even if I want to hide doors and windows and the donut could show as a structural element or mess up with schedules.
