any simpler way to change Complex shape from Solid to Void (male to female)

Hello,

I made a complex shape part A (cut by voids V), then A )red one) shall turn to be a void to make a hole fill in another part,

Now I have to remake the family again (1) switch off visibility of A, then make V first in a face-based family, then (2) the nest to the second face-base family, then make A again but in void form, then V cut the void A, then (3) load to the model famly to make this second A as void to cut hole---

There are too many male -female parts, if follow that way the work load will be double----any more direct way to convert A from solid to void, V vise versa), ?

Thanks

Well first off, you would need to Uncut Geometries.

Hello,  barthbradley

as I had tried, after uncut, then the red one (A)  is unable  to change back to void, also, in the same family, void cannot be cut by a void ---

That is why I had (1) host the original face-based family (after unvisible A) to a 2nd face-based family (2) then remake a new A in void form (3) then cut this new void A by the old void V (3) then host this new 2nd family to the 3rd family

---- this way is too complocated t (if the new version of Revit can swith solid to void back and forth, that will be a great upgrade)

Any more simpler trick?

Thanks

Like this?  If so, there is no reason to convert that square solid into void.

On another note, are you sure Revit is the right software for what you are doing?  Based on what you have posted so far, it appears you should be better off using Inventor, Solidworks, Rhino, or even AutoCAD.

I don't know what version of Revit you are using, but every version I've used in the last 10 years has been able to switch a Void to a Solid and a Solid to a Void.  Post your file and tell us the version.

Hello, barthbradley

Please find the rfa, the purpose is to turn the red block to be a void (though it had been cut by other voids),

there had been several restrictions during my trying in the generic face based family:

- unable to cut solid with solid,

- unable to find a host ,

- unable to cut a nested family with a in-place void (but only with a nested void).

- unable to switch a solid back to void

I will be appreciate if you give a whole process to show your ways to make it this complex shape solid (A red color) into a void ---- best if send a rfa sample

Many Thanks

That was too easy.  Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to do.  Can you explain again?

Hello, barthbradley

These balls are the first voids to cut the solid box, then turn to a complex shape Red A,

What I want is: after these ball cut, then how to turned the be-cut solid red A to be a void

Many Thanks

The big red block?

Uncut and Unjoin everything and try again.

Void cut a void?  You can't do that.

Why do you need to turn it to a void? Are you using it to cut something? Of so, keep it as solid, joint with the other solid, switch join order, and hide it.

Hello, barthbradley

yes I agree,  so besides the long process yesterday, I will ftry your ways later eg. joint in project and then hide it...

PS  about software, I had try some software with user-friendly 3D creation eg Arch, MicroS, 3Dmax, Maya, but each has some  other shortage in functions eg quantity schedule, repeated blocks (family), or adaptive surface , or parametric data.....no perfect one to streamline the whole process from architectural design down to factory production..... no idea about Inventor but seems for mechanical design not for whole architectural building design ? whatever, later I try...

OK Many Thanks

How are you using this family in the Project?
