Hi
I have a problem with an window family where i want to add an annotation symbol into the elevation view.
When i put the annotation symbol into the plan view everything is fine, but when i add it to the elevation it says "Can't create this kind of element in this view in the current mode."
How do i solve this?
Is this happening in the family editor? Are you trying to nest the symbol? I had the same problem. This is cause the symbols relate with the level which constrains the family. Instead of symbols, try to use detail items in the elevation view. It worked for me.

The detail component works but the problem is that i want it to be text, S for safty glass.
When i have an detail component and put text in it, the text will disappear when i load it into the window family.
Any ideas?
I found the solution.
I just have to add the annotation symbol into the detail item, and then load the detail item into the family.
Then it works.
Now i have another problem.
When i try to load the family into the poject the text will still be deleted.
I have attached the cut from the family and from the model. If i have a detail item with a region it can be seen in the model but the text just disaapears???
The text symbol in the detail item is in the same family as the region.
In the Detail Family, can you Move to Background the Region that seems to block the annotation?
Then save/reload into project--see if it works?
No, the region do not hide the text.
The S that is behinde the region in the family is just a textbox in the windows family.
The S that is infront of the region is inside the detail compont family, that is placed in the window family.
But none of the S´ either the textbox or the text symbol in the detail family can be seen in the model.
The model only shows the region from the detail compont family that is place in the window family, none of the text.
Does it make sence?
Yeah, I had the same problem. The annotation elements only show in the plan view (even when they are nested in the nested detail item). Try to make a detail item without text (filled regions form text). Its stupid, but I rly don't see any other way around it....

Yeah, thats what i was affraid of.
I hoped that somebody in here had a better solution.
Thanks
I want to make it as a parameter i can turn on and off for speciel types of windows.
Just went through all the same steps as you thinking I was being really clever only to find out what you have found. ![]()
The only other option is to make it model text with a really thin Depth (I think 1/8" is smallest that fill pattern will still show). You can associate the Model Text Contents with a parameter.
Problem is that if you don't want to see it in other views, you will have to put it on its' own sub-category that you turn off in all your other views/ view templates.
We have run into this issue on multiple occasions where we need to present information as text (not tags) within the family environment. We need mirroring and rotational behavior that will keep text readable without modeling text as discrete objects that require individual visibility parameters. Is there a way to introduce text elements into elevations and sections within the family environment that will appear within a project environment?
The best thing that worked was making mask in shape of letter I want, and using refences to pin it in corner of window that way when i change sizes it moves with it
Has the ability to add text to a families elevation been added to the Revit suggestions page yet? It seems stupid that there are no issues with displaying text in plan but as soon as you want any in elevation it refuses to.
Revit has been capable of this for a long time. The creator of your families needs to provide annotation for elevations in addition to the annotation for plans.
I am trying to create the family and it is not working. I have a generic annotation nested in a detail item. The detail item is placed in the external elevation within the family. It is set to foreground and any masking regions are in the background. The nested family is also set to a workplane which is visible when viewed in elevation. But still, the text label does not show in elevation within project.
How else is this possible?
