Annotation shifts at section generic model

Anonymous

Dear Revit community.

As I am making some section views i noticed that if i am annotating a generic model, the annotation shifts and doesn't snap to the point of the section itself. I've tried to unselect snap settings, alligned and linear dimensions, different views, setting the workplane at the section.. but nothing helps.

A thing that i noticed is that the distance of the shift is the exact same as the perpendicular distance from the endpoint of the generic models geomerty (take a look at the sketch).

I noticed that annotations in Revit are a mess but is there a way around this or do i have to cheat on this one? Like: export to a .dwg, add annotations in autocad, delete everything except for the annotations, and then import is in the view?

Is someone fimiliar with this, has a solution, has some alternatives or knows what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your time!

Greetings

Jens

Draw reference lines and annotate them.

It is the first time I see something like this. Is your model far from the Origin? Can you share the file?

What are we looking at? Those odd-ball extension lines referencing...uh...nothing?  Is that happening on it own?  The dimensions are snapping to that...uh...nothingness.

Strange. Following...

... what do you want to the angle?

... use the angle dimension

Hi @Anonymous

Sorry to hear that you are having issues.

Can you share the model with us to test further? I can send across a private upload folder.

Can you confirm if you've updated your Revit version to the latest build?

Thanks,

I guess the dimensions are supposed to be like this:

You would think.  But, I'm still confused.  Looks like every layer except DIM was turned off.  Know what I mean? They look like they're coming from an import; not from Revit.

He said a generic model so i guess the whole thing is a model in place?

Looks like a model in place and @barthbradley maybe it's a CAD link like what you've mentioned? Let's stay tuned and hear back from the OP

To all:

Tanks for the interests in the Topic. It's been a long search but i have found an answer. But first some quick responds to your questions.

@Ilic.Andrej Reference lines is not realy an options because the dimensions have to be parametric. So one change and all the measurements have to change with it. We're talking about a 2km long tunnel with A LOT of sections. If it was one or two sections it could be a solution.

@ToanDN You were right about the interpretation how i wanted the measurements. Sad to say but because of non-disclosure obligations i'm not able to share the model. Each basic geometry (the concrete parts with main voids like escape doors etc.) is made in a adaptive generic model. Then all the extras were added in Revit.
The location is 15km east and 21,5km north from the survey point. So yeah, it's kinda far from the origin 🙂 After some researched, the origin of the project can not inlfuence the snapping of the geometry in a section.

@barthbradley I'm always up for a beer!
Dim-style is from a NLCS-template (netherlands cad standards) from Benelux, which is contractually. There were no imports from Cad.

@Viveka_CD As mentioned to ToanDN, i'm not able to share the model. Model was build in Revit 2018.3.

I checked the model with some connections and were able to find a solution with Linear Structures. As we were installing the software somebody passed by and told me that Revit 2019 solved the problem with section measurements. We did some tests on it and now it works perfect.

The main problem in Revit 2018 and previous versions is that it could not recognize the cutted geometrie in the section. Revit 2019 solved that problem. Still, when you select the snapping point and shift through the points you wanne snap to (tab-button), you have to find the 'cut-edge' points, not the 'reference' point.cut-edgecut-edgeReferenceReference
