Annotation loss in linked view

Anonymous
Not applicable

The issue is this, we have three models, a documentation, main and sub model. The sub model is linked into the main model, which is in turn linked into the documentation model. We keep the annotations for our plan views in the main model and link that into the documentation model.

When we go to set the view by link in the documentation model, the annotations that refer to the sub model get lost. The views in the docs and main model both have the visibility set up properly (since the annotations that refer to the main model still show up), and the phase and scale are the same.

I've attached an image illustrating the issue.

Set VGO for Link to "By Linked View".  In both.

- set SUB to Attachment link in MAIN

- set the view in MAIN to show SUB By Linked View

- set the view in DOC to show MAIN By Linked View

Yes @ToanDN; that is correct.  Set VGO for Link to "By Linked View" in both.

@ToanDN

This doesn't seem to help. I'm able to pick up anno drafted in the sub model, but not anno that is in the main model that references the sub model.

Attached a few shots of the actual model this time to help show what I'm talking about. You can see the items highlighted in green do carry over, and so do the ones in blue (since they only dimension main elements), but the rest of the dimensions are lost.

Is the missing element's category turned on?

I see. You have to place those missing dims again in DOC then.

Yeah, in fact the attached image will show you, only part of a continuous dimension string disappears. The part of the dimension going from the grid line to the main model remains.

you know, a better workflow for you in this case, might be loading as group instead of linking.

in summary:

_Load as Group the Project 1 into the Project 2

_attach Detail Groups (e.g. the dimensions, etc. from the Project 1)

_pull additional dimensions, set up Views, etc. in the Project 2

_save the Project 2

_Link the Project 2 into the Project 3

_use "By Linked View" in the Project 3 as needed
