Allow use of mixed Solid Model representation

Dear Forum Users,

I would like to ask you for help. According to Autodesk, the option "Allow use if mixed Solid Model representation" in the IFC export options (screenshots below), "allows for mixing Brep and extrusion geometries for an entity" - a citation from Autodesk Revit Knowledge Center.

In the buildingCoder website I found the following documnet:

http://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/files/ar20462_angel_velez_ifc_handout.pdf

which basically says: "When exporting an element’s geometry for the IFC2x3 MVDs, the geometry may be represented by more than one extrusion, or more than one faceted BRep, but not a combination of the two. That generally means that if your Revit element has many extrusions and one item that can’t be extruded, all of the extrusions must also be faceted, resulting in larger files with lower quality data (and perhaps leading to errors where the file is too big to export). Choosing this option allows the use of a “Solid Model” representation which is outside of the IFC2x3 Coordination View 2.0 MVD, but is generally supported by vendors, that allows mixing of extrusions and BReps into one geometric definition of an entity. Use this option only if you know the receiving application can support it."

My question is: can anybody give me any example in which this option changes anything in an IFC file? I would like to have a specific case study in which this option changes Brep represenation into extrusions.

I have done a few tests but all of them failed.

Thank you!

I have found this was useful for joins of walls with structural beams.

I had a wall with say 2 meters height and my beam started at 1,8m, and used join between the 2 elements, to cut the wall. I I had that option off the wall was exported with the 2m height, while with the option turn on the wall was shorter like it was supose to. Hope to have helped
