When design options exist in a Revit project, you can double click to open any section view whether in the design options 'main model' state or when a design option is active.  However for elevations this isn't the same:-

When design options exist in a Revit project, you can double click to open any elevation view but only when the design options 'main model' state is enabled or if the elevation was added whilst in a design option, you can only double click on that elevation if you are in the design option which the elevation was added; but also it will only let you double click to open that elevation if the 'Active only' box is unchecked.  See screenrecording below:-

I think the correct behaviour is you should be able to double click on elevation circle to open all section and elevation views regardless of design options state.  If however the elevation or section has been created in a design option the elevation/section is only visible when that design option is enabled (this is normal Revit behaviour) however you should be able to double click on the elevation circle to open the view when the 'Active Only' check box is checked.  This only currently works when unchecked.

Are you setting up Dedicated Views?  Sounds like you aren't. Dedicated Views are critical to a Design Option workflow.

Hi many thanks for the reply.  We did use dedicated views and I understand that they can be useful but found that it was quite a lot of work to create seperate sheets and filters for each design option.  We found using the toggle at the bottom of the screen was quick to switch between the options when working in views and when we needed to print we added a suffix to the sheet (1) and suffix to drawing title (Option 1), then repeated for each design option.

It was just double clicking on the elevations which wasn't working as expected.
